This gorgeous micro kitchen we completed last year has been getting a lot of attention recently and we can see why!
This micro kitchen designed with interior company Space Shack, squeezes function out of every inch and shows that thoughtful design, and more importantly a thoughtful designer is the key to making the most of your space, whatever footprint you have to work with.
Our clients needed this space to be a crash pad during the week while they work in London. The apartment is small so storage took priority over appliances as they knew they would not be cooking very much. The tall unit on the left is actually a wardrobe made from our fitted bedroom furniture! To prevent a small kitchen space from feeling overcrowded, you may have to prioritise but this isn’t a problem if you’re realistic. Another secret to getting the most out of small spaces is multi-functional appliances – by having a quooker boiling water tap, our clients have no need for a kettle so can get the most from their worktop space.
The Drinks Cabinet
With a bit of compromise in the kitchen, a built-in drinks cabinet was, of course, an absolute must. The clients had a drinks trolley in their previous home, but going for built-in was a space saving and ultra-stylish option. As the living and kitchen spaces are open plan, the drinks cabinet creates a lovely continuity throughout the room.
The Worktops
Statement worktops are particularly excellent for small spaces because they add character without breaking the bank. Our clients went for the bright and refreshing Silestone Helix Polished Quartz for the kitchen space and the intricately atmospheric Neolith Iron Copper Satin for the drinks cabinet.
The Range and the Colours
Both the kitchen and the drinks cabinet are made from our ‘Pure’ range. The handleless doors create a sleek and contemporary look, uncluttered and un-fussy. Anything more would overwhelm the space, so ‘Pure’ was a perfect choice.
Both were also colour matched, a cool green-blue for the kitchen and a vibrant burnt orange for the living area. Both are enough to give a splash of personality without taking over the room or looking out of place.
