Doors

Our Shaker range features a choice of lay-on or in-frame doors. The traditional in-frame style is designed so that the doors and drawer fronts sit and open within the frames, with visible hinges when the door is shut. Our more contemporary lay-on design creates a consistent and continuous appearance, as the door lays over or on top of the frame with minimal gaps between the doors and drawers.

Finishes & Colour

A wide range of finishes and a mix of colours allow our designers to create a completely unique look with this kitchen design. A bold colour works well to create a statement centre piece kitchen island. A neutral colour scheme can be beautifully complimented with wooden worktops or floors to create an understated style. Whereas using dark wood cabinets creates a truly traditional style kitchen. From blue to grey shaker kitchens, we have you covered.

We had our 1st kitchen from you in 1999, and when we moved, had no hesitation in again choosing John Lewis of Hungerford. It has been so refreshing to find a company that cares about it's concerns after the initial guarantee period. Ms T, Coventry

Frequently Asked Questions about Bespoke Shaker Kitchens

Are Shaker kitchens more expensive than other types of kitchens?

At the heart of a Shaker kitchen is craftsmanship and quality carpentry. Built to last, a Shaker kitchen is a fantastic investment for your home and can easily be crafted to fit in with the style of your home. Our knowledgeable design team is here to collaborate with you, guide you through the kitchen design process and advise you on the best kitchen solutions for your budget.

Are Shaker kitchens on trend?

We believe the Shaker kitchen is truly  ‘timeless’ and firmly consider this range to be as at home in a contemporary flat as it is in a traditional farmhouse. A wide range of finishes and a mix of colours allow our designers to create a completely unique look with this kitchen design. From bold accents to understated styles, a Shaker kitchen can accommodate a wide range of finishes, cabinetry and layouts.

Are Shaker cabinets modern?

The Shaker kitchen can be easily dressed up or down to create a classic or modern look, depending on your preferred style. Curved Shaker-style kitchen units and cabinets make a contemporary statement and allow the room to feel less like a kitchen and more like a living space. Thanks to the Shaker cabinets’ simple and elegant design, they provide the perfect backdrop for bold kitchen accents such as geometric tiling, statement pendant lighting or a contrasting kitchen island

Can Shaker-style cabinets be considered timeless?

The Shaker kitchen style has endured for centuries and, while other interior fashions may come and go, the Shaker kitchen is here to stay. Pantry cupboards and glazed wall units provide a timeless feel, reminiscent of the working kitchens of mid-eighteenth-century stately homes, while fresh kitchen accents, such as contemporary backsplashes and modern lighting, instantly inject a current sense of style into this classic kitchen design.

What are the best types of kitchen worktops for a Shaker kitchen?

The elegant simplicity of Shaker-style kitchens allows for a wide range of worktop pairings that can be tailored to your preferences and needs. Sturdy timber countertops tie in with the traditional aspect of a Shaker kitchen, as do other classic worktop choices such as granite and soapstone. For a modern edge, Neolith and quartz worktops look beautiful on Shaker kitchen units and are available in a wide variety of different colours.
