The most identifiable characteristic of a Shaker kitchen is the simple, square -framed, classically portioned doors.
A John Lewis of Hungerford painted shaker kitchen is every bit about the honesty and integrity that come from the roots of this design.
Whether you are wanting a classic look for your kitchen, or something more contemporary, our varied selection of handles can be used to dress-up or down your kitchen for your preferred style. With a wide choice of styles and finishes we can help you choose the perfect handles to complete your kitchen and incorporate into your bespoke design.
The cabinetry in shaker kitchens can also be built from solid wood. Walnut can be hand finished with our special wax, this enhances the beautiful grain of the wood and also offers protection from everyday spills. Oak is another popular choice for shaker kitchen doors to combine and contrast with any paint option.
The Shaker kitchen can be easily dressed up or down, to create a classic or modern look. Curved shaker kitchen units and cabinets make a contemporary statement and allow the room to feel less like a kitchen and more like a living space. Pantry cupboards and tall appliance combinations, work well to create a traditional kitchen. Shaker kitchens can incorporate glazed wall cupboards and chunky wooden work surfaces to give a timeless feel. Shaker cabinets work well in any room whether it’s a kitchen, laundry room or hallway.
Our Shaker range is available in a choice of lay-on or in-frame doors. In-frame - The doors and drawer fronts sit and open within the frames and the cabinets are fitted with special hinges and drawer fronts to suit. The hinges are often visible when the door is shut. Lay-on - This is the standard kitchen door range. The door lays over or on top of the frame. The advantage of the lay-on door style is that there are very small gaps between doors and drawers, creating a consistent and continuous appearance and traditional kitchen feel.
Finishes & Colour
A wide range of finishes and a mix of colours allow our designers to create a completely unique look with this kitchen design. A bold colour works well to create a statement centre piece kitchen island. A neutral colour scheme can be beautifully complimented with wooden worktops or floors to create an understated style. Whereas using dark wood cabinets creates a truly traditional style kitchen.
We had our 1st kitchen from you in 1999, and when we moved, had no hesitation in again choosing John Lewis of Hungerford. It has been so refreshing to find a company that cares about it's concerns after the initial guarantee period.
