The Brief

The client was having a large amount of construction work to create a large open-plan living space and wanted the kitchen to be a ‘wow’ kitchen that they could entertain in.

A big feature island was really important to this client, which needed to include a dedicated ‘breakfast cupboard’ for the children. Along with a big pantry with pull-out drawers and hanging spice rack.  It was important that the whole space ‘flowed’ and came together.

Initially we designed the island the opposite way around (to connect the back pantry area) and it was a huge island with a breakfast bar.  After careful consideration, we thought the space would be more cosy with a table and chairs and we didn’t want the island to dominate the space too much.  The client was so happy with the revised island design which gave her everything she asked for and it’s still over 3m wide, which allows plenty of worktop space and a fantastic preparation area.

Main run – Fossil
Island – Easy Graphite
Splashback – Glass ‘Putty’
Worktops – Natural oak & polished Neolith
Appliances – Neff integrated
