Our Cambridge Location

An internationally renowned Univeristy city with 31 colleges the most recognised being King’s College with its outstanding chapel and Christmas choir singing as seen on TV; there are 10 churches and chapels all within the small city centre location; and approximately 100 pubs with the oldest being the Pickerel Inn that dates back to 1608 and a favourite watering hole for CS Lewis.

There are many parks and wide open spaces in and aroud the city centre where events are held throughout the year such as the famous Cambridge Folk Festival now at its 52nd year and held in the gardens of Cherry Hinton Hall; the Cambridge Shakespeare Festival performs in private college gardens throughout the summer months, and the Cambridge Film Festival, established in 1977, airs in various venues throughout the city. Craft markets are dotted around the city with a daily market held in the central market square that offers an array of interesting artefacts.

A favourite pastime for many and a new activity for others, is punting on the river Cam. This can be done as a tour, or at a leisurely pace stopping off at riverside eateries, or by having a picnic in one of the many meadows such as Granchester. The city is also known for its annual Boat Race against Oxford and has been so since 1829.

Over the last 5-10 years Cambridge has really developed its food, fashion and music scene where pop-up shops and off-beat independant places are starting to thrive, such as The Pint Shop, Hot Numbers Cafe, and Urban Shed to name a small few! The Grand Arcade shopping centre, now in its 9th year, has been a huge success and much welcomed retail treat for residents and visitors abound. Mill Road, King Street, and Green Street are all great up and coming places to shop & dine!

We look forward to welcoming you to our showroom.

Penelope Boswell

Artistic, with a desire for dancing, I originally trained to Teachers Grade in Russian Ballet before retiring at 18 to pursue a Fashion Design & Technology Degree @ MMU; and absorbed the cultural lifestyle that Manchester has to offer.

Since then I have travelled, worked in beach bars, scrubbed sea-shells on Pearl Farming ships, waitressed in fine dining restaurants and run a pub kitchen as a self-taught chef.

When the kitchen became too hot, I changed career paths and studied Interior Design for 2 years before embarking on a new life at the John Lewis of Hungerford Cambridge showroom!

My personal style has always been quirky & creative with a love of colour and mixing up patterns, which is demonstrated through my slightly theatrical wardrobe.

Over the last couple of years, I have learnt that kitchen design is all about the person and their lifestyle; therefore I use a subtle, inquisitive and personalised approach to answer the needs of our clients; with a dash of lighthearted humour!

My interests outside of the dream world of kitchens, involves my beloved cat Lula; upholstering and revamping old chairs; renovating my newly purchased home and learning to garden; music festivals, film nights, and outdoor theatre; plus eating strange food combinations - such as Marmite with Beetroot and poached eggs.

I started my design career with studying Bachelor of Design, majoring in Interior Design over in the green land of New Zealand. Originally from Russia I have found myself living in North London with my photographer husband where I enjoy visiting galleries, different architectural monuments and theatre (Les Miserables is by far the favourite at the moment!).
I really enjoy helping our clients make their houses their homes all over UK. Having worked in our busiest branch in Chiswick I am excited to be taking my experience to beautiful Cambridge. I like to find out about our client’s cooking styles and preferences, a modern kitchen is truly the heart of the home and a stage for family life to unfold.
