Directors' biographies and responsibilities (updated 22/06/09)

John L. Lewis - Non Executive Director

John Lewis is the founder of the Company. He trained in business management at Writtle Agriculture College, Chelmsford and agriculture at The Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester. He subsequently worked as District Agricultural Adviser for The National Agricultural Advisory Service (subsequently ADAS) in Dorset and Wales.

John held the post of Chairman and Chief Executive of the Company until 2 January 2007. Subsequently he served as Non Executive Chairman until August 2008 and currently serves as a Non-Executive Director.


Malcolm R. Hepworth - Non Executive Chairman

Formerly Malcolm was Operations Director for Gateway Foodmarkets and has spent his entire career in retail businesses. Most recently he held the post of Chief Operating Officer of the Co-Operative Wholesale Society (including the position of Chief Executive of the Co-Operative Retail Trading Group, the national buying group for all independent co-operatives with combined annual sales of £5.5 Billion), Malcolm successfully initiated a period of unprecedented change which included the successful merger of CWS and Co-operative Retail Services ("CRS")

He held the post of Executive Director of the Company from January 2006 with responsibility for transitioning the management. Following the appointment of Jonathan Rosby as Managing Director on 2 January 2007 Malcolm assumed the responsibilities of Deputy Chairman and in August 2008 he became Non-Executive Chairman.


Jonathan S. Rosby - Managing Director

Jonathan has some 30 years of relevant industry experience within the furniture industry. He fulfilled roles in Buying, Marketing and Retailing before being appointed Marketing Director of MFI Furniture Centres in 1997. He was latterly Trading Director at MFI.

Jonathan joined the Company on 1st October 2006 and has overall responsibility for the executive management of the Company.


Charlotte Hill-Baldwin - Sales Director

Charlotte has been involved in high value retail sales for 21 years, working with the Company for over seven years in a sales capacity. Initially as a sales designer then Manager in the Hungerford Showroom. In 2005 she was made Team Leader for the Southern showrooms. She was appointed to the Board in December 2006.

Charlotte is responsible for managing and developing the sales and marketing functions of the Company.


Karen Stanley - Finance Director

Karen has extensive experience as a finance director within the construction and property sector after initially training at PwC and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales.

Karen is responsible for managing and developing the financial accounting functions of the Company.
